The proportion of AI answers that cite at least one page on your own domain as a source.

How it is calculated

CR = answers citing at least one of your URLs ÷ all answers × 100

Being mentioned and being cited are different outcomes with different fixes. A mention means the model knew of you. A citation means the model used your page to write the answer, and usually shows the reader a link.

Citation rate is the metric that connects AI visibility back to your own publishing, because it is the one you can move by changing your own pages. Mentions are frequently driven by third-party sources you do not control, which is why a brand can hold a strong mention rate and near-zero citation rate at the same time. That gap is the clearest signal that the work needed is earned coverage rather than more of your own content.
