AI share of voice
Your brand's proportion of all brand mentions detected across a set of AI answers, measured against the competitors appearing alongside you.
SoV = your mentions ÷ every brand mention detected × 100Visibility tells you how often you appear. Share of voice tells you how crowded the answer was when you did. A brand can hold high visibility and low share of voice by being named last in a list of eight.
The denominator is the part to check when comparing tools. If it counts only the competitors you chose to track, your share rises whenever you remove a competitor, which makes the metric gameable and the trend meaningless. Counting every brand detected, including ones you have not added, keeps the number honest at the cost of never quite reaching 100% across your tracked set.
Reported benchmarks put 10 to 15% in the useful range for an established brand and 25 to 40% for a category leader, though these vary enough by category that your own trend is worth more than the benchmark.
Volexi counts every brand mention detected, including untracked brands grouped as Others, so removing a competitor does not inflate your share.
